It is important for families and military to unwind at USO events and other events like it because there’s so many hidden stresses working for the military that people from the outside don’t see. It’s not a black and white world where there is rules and things you have to do. You go to work every day and there these immense amounts of pressure on you and long hours. There is no overtime and things like this just really take that stress away and show us that people care other than just our friends and family.
SSgt Shawn Nickel of the USAF (Eielson AFB, AK)
The USO’s tradition of supporting service members stretches back to our beginnings in 1941. In an effort to boost our military’s morale, the USO regularly teams up with our country’s biggest stars to stage comedy shows, concerts, meet-and-greets, unit visits and other interactive events for our service members and their families stationed stateside and overseas. The USO makes it possible to bring entertainment and music to the doorsteps of America’s troops and their families.
While the entertainment industry has changed a lot over the years, a few things have not: today’s servicemen and women still long for family, home and country and they are uplifted and inspired when their personal heroes volunteer time to participate on a USO Entertainment Tour. Whether it’s sitting down to share a meal or interacting with service members amid base activities, USO Entertainment Tours provide an unmatched experience of bringing a touch of home to troops and their families around the globe.
Thousands of entertainers have donated their time and talents to embark on life-changing USO tour experiences and show their support for America’s military members throughout their service - on the front lines, with their loved ones, in transition and in remembrance. USO Entertainment supports America’s service members and their families by keeping them connected to the people, places and things they love.
