Some estimates show that 80% of jobs are landed through a personal connection.* After a career in the military, service members often transition into the civilian world with few professional references outside of their service. Likewise, military spouses are more likely to experience frequent long-distance relocations than their civilian counterparts (RAND), and often arrive in a new place seeking employment, but have no local connections.
More than 200,000 service members transition from the military into civilian life each year, and 650,000+ military spouses are constantly transitioning. In addition, as many as seven million combined transitioning veterans and military spouses are currently unemployed or underemployed.
Through our relationship with trusted best-in class partners, the USO is committed to further support transitioning service members and military spouses to find the right connections to support under and unemployment.
