In September 2009, the USO and Sesame Workshop launched phase II of “The Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families” – a free traveling USO tour featuring five of America’s favorite Muppets. Trekking to six countries in the span of four months, the tour is scheduled to perform a series of high energy shows tailored specifically for military families at 20 military installations worldwide.
Military families in attendance will see a live character performance and receive giveaways and outreach materials. An extension of Sesame Workshop’s Talk, Listen, Connect program, a military outreach initiative launched in 2006, the tour provides support and offers resources for military families with young children experiencing the effects of deployment, multiple deployments, and/or a parent's return home changed due to a combat-related injury.

ABOUT PHASE I

Phase I of “The Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families” tour kicked off on July 8, 2008, at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center 29 Palms in California. The tour concluded four months later on November 2, 2008, at Camp Scott in Illinois.
In total, the tour…
• visited 23 states;
• performed at 42 military installations;
• delivered 106 shows; and
• touched and enhanced the lives of more than 76,000 service members and their families.
