PHOTOS: Celebrity Cooks Mixon, Richman Reach Out to Deployed Troops, Families

Thursday, November 21, 2013

Many chefs choose their careers because they possess an inherent desire to make people happy, to provide scrumptious meals that will satisfy appetites and leave diners with lasting memories. So it is no surprise that barbecue pitmaster Myron Mixon and Travel Channel host Adam Richman volunteered their time to lift the spirits of troops and families posted in South Korea during a weeklong USO handshake tour. Stops on the tour include: Camp Henry, Camp Walker, Camp Carroll, Kunsan Air Base, U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan, Camp Casey and Camp Red Cloud.

In 2010, Mixon traveled to Kuwait for the USO to prepare finger-lickin' barbecue meals to more than 3,000 troops. Richman has also participated in many charity events that have benefited our troops so when each were approached to visit troops and their families posted overseas, they eagerly accepted.

"Touring overseas with the USO, sharing special moments with our nation’s military community and getting a sneak peek of what it is like to be a service member has been eye-opening," Richman said. "I've learned a lot and will be forever grateful to our troops for their sacrifice." (See more photos of the visit on our Flickr set.)

"I can’t say enough good things about my USO tour to South Korea," Mixon said. "It is nothing like my first trip to Kuwait a few years ago but it is just as memorable. As I prepare to leave the region and head back home, I am filled with more great memories of all the special moments we shared with troops.”
