Team of Ex-NFLers Set to Visit Deployed Troops

Tuesday, June 25, 2013

This summer, a group of former NFL players will continue the 48-year relationship between the NFL and the USO with a USO Entertainment tour to visit deployed servicemen and women.

Linebackers Chris Draft and Donnie Edwards will join return specialist/wide receiver Eric Metcalf and former NFL executive and current ESPN analyst Bill Polian on a week-long trip to the Middle East. (Actual dates and locations are withheld for security reasons.) On a mission to celebrate troops and boost morale, the team is scheduled to travel to two countries in seven days and visit more than six military work sites.

This tour will mark the fifth USO trip for Edwards, who has traveled to five countries since 2007, and the first for Draft, Metcalf and Polian.

This year marks the NFL’s 48th year of working with the USO and deploying popular sports figures around the globe to uplift troops. Last March, the USO and NFL sent out nine football stars on tour abroad.
