Jaden, Will Smith, USO to Bring 'After Earth' to Fort Hood for Special Screening

Wednesday, May 29, 2013

Hollywood comes to Fort Hood, Texas, this Friday as the base will play host to a major motion picture event.

Actors Jaden Smith (“The Karate Kid”) and Will Smith (“Men in Black,” “I Am Legend,” “Hitch”) are set to join the USO in unveiling the Smiths’ newest film, “After Earth,” as a way of honoring, saluting and celebrating our nation’s troops and their families.

The special screening is also in conjunction with Fort Hood Family and MWR and will take place at Fort Hood’s Abrams Gymnasium at 5 p.m. CST. The father and son duo will kick things off by sharing behind-the-scenes stories about the action-adventure film before introducing the film to the attendees. This event is closed to the general public and open to all DoD ID card holders and their dependents.

In “After Earth,” a crash landing leaves a teenager (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.

The film is directed by M. Night Shyamalan (“The Sixth Sense,” “Signs”) and opens nationwide on Friday, as well.
