Fall 2009 – A Photo Essay

From the caregiver to climbing Denali, the fall issue of ONstar symbolPATROL is dedicated to those who have been wounded in defense of our nation -- a debt we can never repay. As George Washington stated in 1781: "The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation."

Operation Proper Exit returned to Iraq this fall with five more soldiers, and one Marine. Witness the joy and comfort the trip brought not only to the participants, but to their fellow soldiers still in Iraq.

FOB Hopping with Toby Keith

Every year, Toby Keith goes on tour with the USO. He and his band of brothers visit service members at the tip of the spear in Iraq and Afghanistan. This year, Toby went deep inside Afghanistan performing 15 times in five days at Forward Operating Bases. This photo essay includes photographs from Toby's 2009 "America's Toughest Tour."

Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of One Happy Hour by David Feherty

David Feherty treats wounded warriors to six "IED" - Improvised Explosive Days - days a year. These days include cycling, hunting, and golf and help those who have been wounded get active again. Feherty and other pro golfers also head to Iraq or Afghanistan to visit service members in the field. Check out these behind-the-scenes shots.
