An Engine for Good: Gunn Honda SUV Donations Help USO San Antonio

From staff reports
It was folks who know about service helping those who serve.
While the USO has a host of best-in-class corporate partners on the worldwide level, regional USO centers rely on a strong backbone of local partners to deliver their mission to troops and families.
One of those regional partners is Gunn Honda, which donated a 2013 Honda Pilot to USO San Antonio last month as part of its KSAT 12 TV-hosted phone bank at the Ingram Park Mall in San Antonio.
“It’s a gorgeous vehicle with a lot more space in there which will help us tremendously in running supplies around the region,” said Shari Jenson, director of USO San Antonio.
It’s not the first time Gunn Honda and the Gunn family stepped up for the USO. They donated a new Honda CR-V with a custom digital camo wrap to the same center in 2009. When that CR-V was vandalized a year later, Gunn replaced the custom wrap free of charge.
“I happen to have a son that’s in the Army, so it meant something to me,” Gunn Honda General Manager Mark Hennigan said. “We’re always looking for good causes, and I couldn’t think of a better one than the USO.”
Hennigan’s son recently returned from a tour in Afghanistan, an experience Hennigan described as “a little nerve wrecking, to say the least” for their family.
The Gunn family has a long relationship with the military, too. Current Gunn Automotive Group CEO SeanGunn’s grandfather – “Pop” Gunn – served in the Army in Europe during World War II.
