FUQUAY-VARINA, North Carolina—Chewy is a serious biker dog.

With roughly 100,000 miles, two cross-country trips and countless charity rides under his belt — including several rides benefiting the USO of North Carolina — Chewy has made quite a name for himself since he first started riding in 2008.

“We weren’t looking for the spotlight,” said Butch Ewing, a veteran and Chewy’s owner/driver. “Even now with him battling cancer, we still don’t look for the spotlight. But the spotlight tends to find him.”

While Chewy rides for several other causes, he’s over the years he’s developed a special relationship with the USO of North Carolina earning him the title of USO Ambassadog.

“For me, it touches me personally [to ride with Chewy for the USO] because I know what they’re doing [as a veteran who has used USO services],” Ewing said.
