EIF, ABC Team to Raise Funds for USO, Other Organizations With Veterans Day Special

Wednesday, November 02, 2011

The Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) and ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition are partnering to produce a one-hour program for Veterans Day called Extreme Makeover: Home Edition "Rise and Honor" A Veterans Day Special to benefit six veteran-serving organizations, including the USO.

The show, which will appear on Friday, Nov. 11 at 8 p.m. EST, will be hosted by “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” star Ty Pennington and will highlight some of the most memorable military stories that the series has produced previously while catching up with a few of those military families.

Assisting Pennington in the presentation of the program are celebrities Robin Williams, Whoopi Goldberg, Jewel, George Lopez, actor and former soldier J.R. Martinez, TV chef Rachael Ray, TV personality Sherri Shepherd and Major League Baseball players Clay Bucholz (Boston Red Sox), Daniel Murphy (New York Mets) and Shane Victorino (Philadelphia Phillies). The celebrities will encourage the public to donate via phone and online at riseandhonor.org.

The funds raised will benefit the following organizations: the USO, Fisher House, Hire Heroes USA, Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, Volunteers of America and Welcome Back Veterans. The organizations share a goal of providing vital services and support to our nation’s veterans and their families including housing, job placement, health care, rehabilitation and mental health treatment. ABC, Clorox and Major League Baseball are sponsors of the event.

“Throughout our show’s history, we’ve highlighted the difficult struggles our veterans often face when returning home,” said George Verschoor, Executive Producer of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. “We are so proud to take this a step further with a moving tribute to our nation’s heroes, while inspiring Americans to give back to those who’ve given our country so much.”

The Entertainment Industry Foundation is a leading charitable organization of the entertainment industry and has distributed hundreds of millions of dollars to support charitable initiatives addressing critical health, education and social issues.

“We are thrilled to partner with ABC and the Extreme Makeover team to honor the brave men and women who have sacrificed so much for our country,” said EIF President and CEO Lisa Paulsen. “We hope this inspiring program will rally Americans to give back to our military families and support organizations that provide vital services to our veterans and their families.”
