Olympic Champion Gymnast Carly Patterson Set to Visit Military Families in U.K.
Wednesday, July 18, 2012
Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast Carly Patterson will tumble for the troops and their families based in the United Kingdom as part of her first USO tour.
Patterson will be in London as part of the NBC broadcast crew for the 2012 Olympic Games and will take time to visit Royal Air Force Base Mildenhall on Monday, Aug. 13 to participate in toddler gym classes, host tumbling and gymnastic clinics as well as inspire and encourage military youths.
Patterson, who in 2004, became the first American female in 20 years to win the All-Around Olympic Gold medal in a non-boycotted Olympics, sprang at the opportunity to extend America’s thanks to military families for their service.
“I’ve been very fortunate in my life, being able to follow my dreams and winning an Olympic gold medal,” she said. “It’s a great honor for me to be able to share my story with military kids and to let them know that anything is possible. I’m grateful to the USO for making this trip possible and can’t wait to meet the families at Mildenhall.”
In addition to her athletic career, Patterson has a passion for fashion (she has her own line of apparel called G Wear by Carly) and music. She recently re-released her single, “Here I Am.” Originally released in 2009, “Here I Am” was written about Patterson’s personal Olympic experience and as an inspiration to others to follow their dreams.
