PHOTOS: TV Personality, Actress Diaz Visits Troops in Italy, Educates Military Kids

Tuesday, January 08, 2013

Entertainment Tonight correspondent and actress Raquel “Rocsi” Diaz traveled to U.S. bases in Italy last September to observe the 9/11 anniversary and to lift the spirits of deployed troops and their families.

Stopping by bases like U.S. Army Garrison Vicenza, Aviano Air Base and Naval Air Station Sigonella, Diaz visited schools to speak to students about halting bullying and dropped by troop work sites to sign autographs and pose for photos.

This was Diaz's second USO trip, following her 2010 trip to Germany to speak to youngsters.

Rocsi Diaz visits with Aviano's First Responders to say thank you for their service.

“What resonates to me the most with all my work with the USO is the appreciation I have for all those families serving and sacrificing not only their lives but [their] comfortability of leaving the states,” Diaz said.

AFN interviews Diaz at a speaking engagement at the Aviano Middle School, where she spoke to children about transitioning back to school, self-esteem, anti-bullying and the importance of education.

Diaz said: “What draws me to children's causes is knowing the responsibility of instilling positive messages to young minds. I know as a television figure some may admire or look up to me so I prefer to use my image for good for our kids' futures."

The assembly of students listens to Diaz as she takes the stage.

Diaz spoke of the 9/11 observance by saying: “The USO 9/11 tour meant so much to me because the sense of truly giving back on that day, for me, was totally accomplished. Being able to be amongst our serving men in women and showing my appreciation was overwhelming.”

Diaz sits down for lunch with troops at Aviano Air Base and chats about their duties, lives and families.

Diaz visits with the men and women of the Explosive Ordinance Disposal, 31st Civil Engineering Squadron.

“The smiles of everyone when I arrive and the gratitude they have for me traveling to see them has no comparison for the gratefulness I have for the troops and their families for all they do,” Diaz said.
